I have a question, how can I reach you?
We’d love to hear from you! Email us at loft@barnyarn.com and we’ll get back to you as quickly as possible. We are a very small operation, so it may take a few days if we’re busy creating new colorways. We appreciate your understanding. FYI, we answer email messages much faster than messages on social media, so please reach out via email.
How much yarn should I order?
First, find a pattern you like. Then determine the proper yarn weight and yardage necessary to complete the project. Once you know the weight and yardage you can determine the number of skeins you’ll need to finish your project.
How should I wash hand-dyed yarn?
It is best to hand wash natural fiber yarn in cool water. This will prevent shrinking, particularly in non-superwash varieties. Don’t rub the yarn, in fact, try to move the yarn as little as possible. Do not use commercial detergents, they are drying to the fibers and can cause the dye to transfer and fade. Gentle wool wash can be used, though, but it is optional. Wool wash is made to condition your fine fibers, are low sudsing, and easy to rinse. NO BLEACH! Soak your woolens for 30 minutes, gently press out excess water but don’t wring! Dry flat away from direct sun. Washing in this way should keep your luxury fibers looking and feeling great through the generations.
What if I need more yarn than you have in stock?
Feel free to email us to see if we have some that has not made it into inventory yet. Sometimes we are finishing up a batch and it has not been added to the site, but we are happy to add it in for your purchase.
Do you dye custom orders?
Well, that depends. We can sometimes create a current colorway in a different yarn base; ie: a colorway in Joy fingering can sometimes be created in Bliss worsted. This depends on the yarn base you need and our dye schedule. Keep in mind, orders like this will take longer to ship than our in-stock yarn. Please email us and ask. We are always happy to fulfill requests if at all possible.
Unfortunately, we do not create new colorways to order.
Why do my skeins look slightly different from each other?
Hand-dyed yarn is very different from commercially dyed yarn. Each skein is dyed by hand by an individual dyer and does not have a dye lot. Each skein will have unique color variations which creates a surprise in every stitch, which is what makes it so wonderful to use for your creations! We do our best to represent the colorway as accurately as possible, but differences in monitors can cause the color to appear different than the received product. Variances inherent to the hand-dyed yarn process will result in a slightly different color every time. Unless you received the skein used in our photograph, it is likely your yarn will look slightly different than what is shown. Also, different yarn fibers take the dye differently resulting in a different color effect. This will make your project a truly individual work of art!
Because each skein of hand-dyed yarn is unique, please be sure to order enough yarn to complete your project. Always be sure to alternate skeins for each row worked to blend variances between skeins. Please remember that our photos are as accurate as possible, but the colors you see also depend on your computer monitor’s settings.

Where can I get pattern ideas or stitch help?
You Tube is a great resource for pattern and/or stitch help. Simply search the specific pattern or stitch that is giving you trouble and you will find many great helpful videos.
Do you have a storefront where I can buy your yarn?
We do not have a physical storefront. Our products are only available online.
Do you sell wholesale?
Unfortunately, no, we are not currently able to fill wholesale orders.
I forgot my login Information, what can I do?
If you created a login before and cannot remember your password, click on “Forgot Your Password” and follow instructions to reset.
Do you sell gift cards?
Absolutely! We sell gift cards in several denominations. You can access links to purchase on the home page, the product pages.
How do I apply a discount code?
Using your discount code is easy! First, choose your yarn and click on “View Cart” on the right of the screen. Add your code into the “Coupon Code” box on the left of the screen under your shopping cart. (Be sure to enter the code exactly as it appears.)Then click “apply code.” Choose “Proceed to Checkout” to continue the process.
Will you cake my yarn?
Be aware we cannot accept caked or balled yarn for returns.
Time constraints usually prevent us from offering this service. In the very rare event we are able to cake yarn, keep in mind this voids your ability to return the product. (Please see our Returns Policy and Terms of Online Sales) It is best to receive your yarn in hank form to ensure you are satisfied.
Caking will render the purchase non-returnable.
This is because when the yarn is caked it is considered used. (Please see our Returns Policy and Terms of Online Sales) Used items cannot be resold. Yarn must be in re-sellable condition for an acceptable return. Often, your local yarn store can provide this service. If you don’t have the necessary tools to cake your yarn please contact your local yarn store.
Is it normal for my yarn to bleed?
Most yarns will not bleed, but it can happen from time to time, especially if the colorway is rich (ie: red, dark blues or purple, or very vibrant colors). Try soaking your hand knits in cold water with a few splashes of vinegar. Heat slowly until very warm then allow to cool completely before rinsing carefully. All excess color should be soaked up. Lay flat or block to dry. I never recommend machine washing.
I live outside the US. Do you ship internationally?
Absolutely! But international packages may take as long as 6 weeks to reach their destination. You, the customer, is responsible for paying any taxes, customs and duty fees. (Please see our Shipping Policy and Terms of Online Sales)
What are your international shipping rates?
International shipping rates depend on the size and weight of your total order. Shipping cost for your actual order is calculated during checkout.
When will you ship my yarn?
Orders that are entirely in stock are usually shipped within 2-4 business days (Monday-Friday) after you place your order, but may occasionally take slightly longer during holidays or if we are at a show. Please be sure your Ship To address is correct before placing your order. If there is an issue with shipping to your provided address and/or the shipment is returned to us, you are responsible for the cost of re-shipping the items. We will happily cover the shipping cost if the error is ours. (Please see our Shipping Policy and Terms of Online Sales)
How will you ship my yarn?
Most domestic packages are shipped by USPS with Delivery Tracking and Confirmation included. Delivery tracking details will be emailed to you once your items ship. Our Priority Mail rates are calculated automatically based on weight and shipping distance, and you can see the shipping cost during check out before final payment. (Please see our Shipping Policy and Terms of Online Sales)
Some important information for international buyers:
We ship international packages via USPS First Class Mail, DHL or UPS. International mail is not insured nor is tracking available beyond U.S. borders. You can expect an international package to be delivered anywhere from 3-6 weeks once shipped. It may be possible to use a customs number to track the package while within the US and sometimes outside of the US, but, be aware it may not be possible to track your package. Delivery is dependent upon the carrier chosen at checkout and your local carrier and can take several weeks.
Be aware you are responsible for paying your country’s customs fees.
Returned packages. If your package is returned undeliverable or refused we will refund at your request the cost of the items you ordered less shipping and a 20% restocking fee. We do not refund the cost of shipping for international parcels returned or refused. We do not refund customs fees.
My package was lost or damaged in shipping. What can I do?
We will do our best to look into it, however, we are not responsible for any lost, damaged or delayed packages. This is because, as per USPS guidelines, once the package is picked up by the postal service the ownership of that package is transferred to you, the buyer/purchaser. We have no control over claims filed as we are no longer considered the package owner. Any claims filed for lost or damaged packages must be made by you, the buyer/purchaser, via USPS.com. We are not responsible for lost packages, damaged packages or delays.
Can I change my order?
Changes are not possible after an order has shipped.
Changes to orders that have not shipped may sometimes be possible. We want you to be happy with your purchase experience so if you have any issues, questions, or would like to make a change please email us at loft@barnyarn.com with details of the change you’d like to make. Please include your full name and address, and your order number if you have it. We will make every effort to accommodate your request prior to shipping.
I have an issue with my order what should I do?
