Barn Yarn hand-dyed yarn store

A Barn is Born

I am absolutely crazy about all things yarn. Have been ever since I was a kid. I learned to crochet as a little girl and that began an obsession that has lasted my entire life.  Basically, that’s where the Barn Yarn story begins.

I loved crochet and did it all the time.  Of course, there were periods where I briefly hung up my hook to pursue other endeavors. You know.  The kinds of stuff we find ourselves doing as we grow up. Hanging out with friends, sowing the oats, dating, marriage, kids and stuff like that. Through it all, though, I always found my way back to my favorite art.

It was not until after I learned how to knit, though, that I really began to build up quite the stash of yarn. Knitting opened the door to try so many yarn fibers and pattern types that I previously hadn’t used in crochet. It was liberating and all consuming. I was obsessed.

It wasn’t long before I wanted to try my hand at creating custom colored yarn for my projects.  Oh boy! I thought learning to knit opened a Pandora’s Box.  That was NOTHING compared to the art of dyeing yarn!  It wasn’t long before I created more than I would ever be able to use in a lifetime.  That was a problem!

My house was bursting for all the yarn I had stockpiled.  I had to face a reality, which was that I cannot possibly continue with this hobby because I just couldn’t use it all!  I was desperate for a solution and began to dream.

I daydreamed of a place where I could just work on my creations all day. Somewhere that was in a gorgeous setting, mountains in the distance, fragrant breezes.  Somewhere that was large enough to store all my little lovelies until I could figure out what to do with them all. Piles and piles of glorious yarn!  I had this vision of a barn that was converted into a dye studio and …

Well, I came to realize the barn idea solved my storage and workspace problems, but it did nothing to solve the stockpile issue. I told myself not to worry, I’d think of something. I continued to dream of my barn and one day the lightbulb went off.  Silly girl, share your creations with the world…

And Barn Yarn was born!  Nope, I don’t have that pastural setting just yet…I’m workin’ on it, though, and hopefully Barn Yarn will really be in a barn someday. For now, I live the dream every time I am able to offer a new creation to you. Because of my hobby-gone-wild the dream I never knew I had has come true.

And I have each of you to thank for that!  If not for your constant support I couldn’t do what I love.

Thank you!

Xoxo
